Pre-Nursing VS Pre-Medicine

Hello all! I'm Kalee, a current Pre-Nursing/Psychology major. I have recently been thinking about changing my major to Pre-Med/ Biological Psychology (that's what it is called at my university). I was out and about with friends and mingling with new people, when the question got popped. The question I was hoping somebody would ask since day one, and the same question I have always feared.

"Why aren't you doing pre-med instead of pre-nursing if you like neurology?"

It seriously has been echoing in my mind for days now. I've always wanted to be asked that question because it meant somebody believed in me and thought I could do it. At the same time, I didn't want to be asked because I would have to answer why, and I didn't have an answer.

It's not that I'm lazy about school, I'm just not very confident. I've always wanted to be a Neurologist and when I decided my major as Pre-Nursing, I figured I'd double major in Psychology to get me where I wanted in the hospital as a nurse. I never had the confidence or support system to get me through medical school. Although I'm still an undergrad and only a sophomore, I don't have much time left to decide what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Everyone keeps telling me to follow my dreams because that's what college is for. College is all about finding something you like and would do for free, but want to make a living off of it at the same time. I feel like Neurology can do that for me. Ever since my junior year in high school (holy crap that was four years ago), I've been obsessed with the brain and spinal cord anatomy and physiology, and psychology has always been a huge interest as well. I feel like humans sometimes work like computers. We're so complex but we all have the same components that make us function. Environmental factors can easily affect the way we perform and although computers don't have minds, they have reasons for not functioning properly. The difference is humans' personality and mental health all depends on the chemical balances in the brain and blood stream, and if a human has a mental health disorder, it can be fixed as easily as a computer can be, just maybe not as quickly.
At this point I'm rambling but you guys get why I'm so amused, right?

Anyway, I'm basically begging for advice. I'd be going to school for double the time, to get paid triple the amount, to do something that I love and am obsessed with. A little background information would probably help. I have a 3.54 GPA in college and I'm very active on campus. I do a lot of volunteer work through my sorority, Sigma Kappa. Our philanthropy is Alzheimer's research, which is one of the reason's why I chose to be a dove lover! I only have had one leadership position and it was a co-chair homecoming position. If I do decide to go Pre-Med, what else can I do to thicken my chances of getting into a decent medical school?

So if anybody has ever been in my situation or just knows exactly what to say, comment below and help an indecisive girl out!
